Following the tragic death of Walter Minaya, his parents Dana and Frank made the decision to donate his organs:

~ His heart was transplanted to a 59-year old woman ~

~ His liver was transplanted to a 52-year old married man ~

~ His right kidney was transplanted to a 48-year old woman ~

~ His left kidney was transplanted to a 63-year old man. ~

The exerpts below are from letters written to the Minaya family and show the remarkable ways in which Walter was able to give the ultimate present, and help numerous individuals in need:

"Because of your courage and generosity, at  a time of your own pain and suffering, critically ill people will benefit. Through your support, four individuals suffering with end stage organ failure have been given a chance to live. Your courage and compassion in consenting to donation upon the death of Walter was generous and gives hope to those whose lives are dependent on such gifts from strangers."

- Charles Cintron, New York Organ Donor Network

"It is with heartfelt gratitude that I received your son's kidney. I have had kidney failure for a number of years and was dialyzed. Now, I no longer have to undergo dialysis.  Your choice to donate his organs after the monumental grief you shared after he died, shows much unselfishness and caring. I, like others who were recipients of his organs, am appreciative of your choice."

- Recipient of Walter's left Kidney

"I am a woman of 50 years still with a lot of hopes and dreams for me and my family. Walter's donation of his kidney has opened up the future for me. I can now hope to see my children graduate from college and maybe even see grandchildren.  I have a son who is 23. When I read about Walter's chraracter of nonviolence, I know that Walter and my son Anthony would have been best friends because he believes in the same things."
