What is the MOD Squad? |
||
Started in 1997 in Albany, New York, the MOD Squad is based on a simple concept. Mothers whose children have died reach out to and support families who are considering the option to donate. MOD Squad members have each faced the death of a child and have weighed the decision whether to donate.
The MOD Squad works with professional staff members - the procurement coordinators - who are responsible for offering the donation option. Although expert in what they do, most staff members have never walked in the shoes of a parent whose child has died. The MOD Squad brings a special type of support to families in crisis.
MOD Squad mothers truly understand what this family is going through. Their own experience makes them uniquely qualified to comfort and console, to offer information, and to help the family in any way possible, whether obtaining dinner or wrapping a warm blanket around the shoulders of a grieving parent. The MOD Squad member's primary goal is to ensure that families are supported appropriately in their decision making process, no matter what they choose. MOD Squad members are carefully trained and screened to provide emotional support, education and general assistance.
