About Samana College

Samana College was founded to preserve and share the history of the American-descended community that settled on Samaná Bay in the early 1800s.
The college connects local history, hands-on learning, and global perspectives — from maritime trades to cultural entrepreneurship.

Historical Background:
In the 1820s, free African Americans from the United States settled on the shores of Samaná Bay, building churches, schools, and a shipbuilding tradition.
They kept strong ties with the U.S. while creating new lives in the Caribbean.
Samana College continues their mission — to protect their stories, teach future generations, and connect heritage with modern education.
